Driving Directions & Traffic Regulations

Harbour map

Traffic regulations are crucial for a smooth event

All regatta participants are requested to observe the special traffic regulations in and around the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Center.

Compliance is necessary
a) in order to receive the large number of boats coming to the Kiel Week
b) to keep the entrances to the harbour clear for ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars.

Non-compliance may call for enforcement by the police. Please note the details in the information sheet which you will receive at the entrance to the Olympic Centre or at the Race Office.

Opening hours of the harbour

The harbour may be entered by automobile during the following times:

  • Friday, 20 June, 0800 - 2400 hrs.
  • Wednesday, 25 June, 0600 - 2400 hrs.
  • all other days: 0600 - 2200 hrs.

At night the harbour area is closed for all vehicles.

Temporary Access to the Harbour:
You may temporarily enter the marina by paying a deposit of 50 € valid for one (1) hour. The deposit will be returned at the exit after having left the harbour area on time.

Special regulations

During Kiel Week, altered traffic regulations will apply in the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Centre area. All participants are urgently requested to observe the traffic signs when approaching Kiel-Schilksee and to cooperate with the police and the Organising Authority.

Further instructions will be given at the entrance to the harbour area.

It is not permitted to leave cars or boat trailers in the harbour area or launching ramps for centreboard yachts. The harbour area is closed for all vehicles at night.

Parking

Sufficient parking spots for cars are available near the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Sailing Centre. Please follow the road signs to the public parking areas. Parking alongside Fördestraße is forbidden and cars will be towed away.

During Kiel Week, there will be the special parking space "Parkplatz Tempest" and "Salzwiesenweg". Please park your car there. Keelboat trailers will be parked in a special space. At the Regatta Info and Service you will receive a plan showing where your trailer has been parked.

cranes

Keelboats arriving by trailer may be launched and hauled out with their own connection wire by the cranes in the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Centre only.

Boats may also stay or be craned in the harbour of Strande. Arising fees have to be paid by the owners and will not be refunded by the Organising Authority.

Crane Times:

  • Friday, 20 June, 0800 - 2000 hrs.
  • Wednesday, 25 June, 0800 - 2000 hrs.
  • all other days: 0800 - 1800 hrs.

Motorboats

The Organising Authority draws attention to the fact that the responsible drivers of rubber- or other motorboats have to have the German “Sportbootführerschein See” or an equivalent powerboat license of his home country (e.g. RYA level 2 powerboat or international certificate of compliance).

The legal speed limit in Strande Bay is 10 knots.

The legal speed limit in port is 3 knots.
